General Education

A General Education extends the knowledge and perception we have about everyday occurences in our lives and others around us. Any type of person that study's and researches a subject is approaching a self governing way of life. If we could go back in time to see how much we have stretched ourselves to answer questions that have been around since the beginning of our exsistince. Why are we here, where did we come from, how did we get here in the first place. The same questions have been around for years, but it seems as though we are alot closer to answer these questions now than we ever have been. The author of this passage states,"A general education gives us knowledge about the world and those who live and the ability to continue pursuing knowledge both within the university and outside of it. Having received a general education, we are able to learn throughout our lives."  The author states that with a general education we have a more broad intepretation of physical properties of the universe.

The author of this passage states that as we progress in time, our understanding in one area is greater, as this happens our general education becomes larger.  "A university education also enlarges our understanding and our curiosity about ourselves."  The author goes as far to say that with a general education we learn more about ourselves.  Universities require certain classes for this purpose.  With an understanding of liberal arts we come to "an ability to govern ourselves."  But this is just the universities assumpsion. It is a very good argument the author makes and I have to agree. But at the same time, inventions and knowledge of physics has been catastrophic.

We cannot ignore that millions of people have died because of broading our general education. People have created weapons to fight against our own human race. War has not subsided. The author seems to have a kind heart which is nice and all but the truth is, this is a dog eat dog world. If you don't fight for what is rightfully yours, you will be right where you started.  I think to better our general education we need to argue and fight for what we believe is the truth. Everyone has a belief in something and everyone cannot agree with the same morals and virtues. For a better general education we must study the facts, and argue our theory, logic or reason.
